On November 19, 2025, the West Tisbury Select Board declared a residential exemption of 30% of the average residential property value in West Tisbury. This exemption applied to Fiscal Year 2026. The application period for that exemption closed on April 1, 2026.
We are now accepting applications for FY27 Residential Exemptions. We will not know the exemption amount, if any, until the Select Board votes at the Classification Hearing. This hearing is usually held in November. We encourage taxpayers to file by the end of October to ensure they receive the exemption on their December tax bills.
Once approved, applications do not need to be filed each year. If you have not applied for a residential exemption in the past, and your property is also your principal residence, you may be entitled to a residential exemption.
In order to qualify, you must have owned and occupied the property on January 1st, 2026, and at least one occupant must be listed on the deed either as an individual or a trustee. Other restrictions exist, and our department can help you determine if you qualify.
It is important to follow the instructions closely. Incomplete applications will not be approved.
